Rhode Island Marine Trades Industry Skills Development Initiative

Overview

As a result of forward thinking and funding from the Governor’s Workforce Board, the Rhode Island Marine Trades Industry Partnership was able to clearly define the industry as well as survey and analyze the employment and training needs for this critical industry. The Marine Trades Skills Gap Study results have strengthened the broad-based support and momentum already underway. Through funding from the Workforce Partnership of Greater Rhode Island and in partnership with RIMTA’s Education and Training sub-committee, My Turn, Inc. and the Marine Trades Industry Partnership will represent and lead the Rhode Island marine industry on the issues pertaining to the competitiveness, growth, workforce development, and success of the Marine Trades industry as a whole.

Our Goals

  • To expand employer involvement in the promotion of the marine industry, recruitment and training of current and potential employees.
  • To ensure that skills training programs match the industry needs.
  • To build out existing industry sector training programs and to develop new training initiatives for incumbent, transitioning and entry-level employees.
  • To work closely with existing workforce development agencies, Career & Youth Center staff, high schools and WIB vendors.

How YOU can help

  • Provide informational, educational and work-based learning opportunities for both youth and adults by offering Industry Tours, Job Shadows, internships, serving as a guest speaker, attending the Youth Summer Employment Fair and by participating in a Marine Industry Career Awareness Video.
  • Become involved with the initiative by communicating concerns, ideas, and advice to the project coordinators.
  • Provide financial support and/or In-Kind Contributions to assist us in our efforts to create and implement a strong pipeline to this fast-growing industry.
